Today is National Mario Day.

  1. The original Mario/Donkey Kong game was supposed to be about Popeye.
  2. The original game was made with only 2 programmers
  3. His signature headwear was used because the animators had trouble animating his hair.
    1. His moustache was also made because his mouth was hard to see in 8-bits
  4. In the original game the clouds and the bushes are the same design.
  5. Nintendo owns the rights to “It’s on like Donkey Kong”.
  6. Mario wasn’t always called Mario. Jumpman and Mr. Video were other names he went by first.
  7. Mario was originally a bad guy. Mario originally mistreated his pet (Donkey Kong) and it caused him to kidnap Mario’s girlfriend, peach.
  8. Mario used to be involved with a woman named Lady before Princess Peach, and Princess Peach was originally Princess Toadstool.
  9. Mario is more than just a plumber. He’s been an archaeologist, a physician and a golfer.
  10. In the video games, Mario hits the bricks with his fist not his head.
